Volunteer
Habitat for Humanity fulfills its mission through wonderful volunteers that contribute in several ways to help see our build projects move from vision to reality.
You will find that volunteering with Habitat for Humanity is a very rewarding experience. Habitat work sites are places to build relationships as well as houses. Working together toward a common goal, diverse individuals find common ground, lasting friendships, and a sense of purpose and accomplishment. Once you start volunteering, you won’t want to stop! There are many ways you can get involved.
Construction Volunteers
We need skilled and unskilled individuals and groups to partner with us in building homes as well as assist with volunteer management. While we welcome experts in the field of construction and other skilled professions required to build a house, anyone can volunteer. We pair professionals in the field with unskilled volunteers who are willing to learn. Everyone is welcome and we guarantee that you will find your volunteer experience rewarding.
Individuals or groups can volunteer and special arrangements for days and times can be made by contacting us at 301-687-1006 or by email at achfh.volunteer@gmail.com. Habitat will provide hard hats and safety glasses as well as instruction on specific tasks. While Habitat does provide tools for the build project, you may be asked to bring tools specified for specific build days if you have them. Lunch is provided for all site volunteers.
Would you like to volunteer at our construction site?
Here’s what you need to do:
1. Print and fill out our Volunteer Application and our Waiver and Release documents. You will bring these to the construction site on the first day that you volunteer. We must have these signed forms before you can be allowed to work.
2. Complete the free Online Volunteer Safety Course. Go to http://hfhaffiliateinsurance.com, scroll down and click on the "Volunteers" tab and follow the instructions.
3. Once on the site you will be given a copy of our Construction Work Crew Safety Guidelines to read before starting work and then given instructions for the day.
Would you want to help Habitat for Humanity build affordable houses without wielding a hammer? We always need action-minded individuals to help on our committees! Hospitality Volunteers
Can you provide lunch for a site work team? We need regular volunteers to prepare and deliver lunches and snacks for construction volunteers to keep them going during a long day of physical exertion. Hospitality volunteers also greet volunteers on the construction sites, have them sign in, introduce the family to the volunteers, and just say thank you to the construction volunteers.
